Beta means the app is available to buy now, while workflows, edge cases and interface details continue to improve across more projects and Mac configurations.

Your feedback during this period helps shape what Folian becomes.

Folian stores your projects locally on your Mac. As with any important writing, keep appropriate backups of your work.

Optional AI features use your own provider API keys. Any external AI usage charges are billed by that provider, not Folian.

Folian for Mac is a one-time US$30 purchase during beta. Your purchase includes the desktop application and updates released during this beta.

Optional AI services are separate. If you choose to connect an AI provider, you use your own API key and any usage charges are billed directly by that provider.

Payment is processed securely by our payment provider. Your card statement may show ABL International, the business behind Folian. Taxes may be added at checkout depending on your location.

What happens after you purchase

  1. Choose Get Folian for Mac and complete checkout with the payment provider.
  2. Return to your purchase confirmation on folian.app.
  3. Download Folian for Mac once the purchase is confirmed.
  4. Install Folian on your Apple Silicon Mac.
  5. Create a project and start writing.

The download appears on the confirmation page after payment is confirmed. Reaching the confirmation address is not itself proof of payment.

Before you buy

Does Folian require AI?
No. Planning, research, writing and editing work without an AI provider.
Do I need my own API key?
Only if you choose optional AI. You bring a supported provider key, and that provider bills you directly.
Where is my manuscript stored?
On your Mac. Folian does not upload your desktop project to Folian servers as part of normal writing.
Can I export my writing?
Yes. Folian includes export and backup tools so you can carry work out of the project.
Does Folian work on Intel Macs?
No. This release is for Apple Silicon Macs, M1 or newer, running macOS 12 or later.
What happens to my work if I stop using Folian?
The project stays on your Mac. You can export the manuscript. Folian does not hold that desktop project on Folian servers.

Is Folian ready for a real manuscript?
Yes. Folian is ready for real writing projects and is already being used that way. Beta continues to refine the experience across more projects and Mac configurations. Keep appropriate backups of important work.
What does Beta mean?
You are buying the current Folian desktop app for Apple Silicon Mac as a one-time purchase. Workflows and interface details will continue to improve during the Beta. It is not a disposable demo or prototype.
Is Folian a subscription?
Folian is a one-time purchase. There is no mandatory Folian desktop subscription.
What happens when the Beta ends?
Your purchase includes the Folian desktop app for Mac and updates released during the Beta.
Where is my writing stored?
Folian is local-first. Your projects live on your Mac. Folian does not upload your desktop project data to Folian servers as part of normal writing.
Does Folian require AI?
No. The writing workspace works without AI. Optional AI uses your own provider keys when you choose to configure them.
Can I use my own OpenAI, Anthropic or other provider key?
Yes, when you choose to enable optional AI. You connect your own provider, stay in control of usage, and external AI billing remains with that provider.
Is Windows available?
Windows is in development. Get notified when Folian for Windows is available.
What happens if I find a bug?
Report issues to hello@folian.app. Beta exists so Folian can be refined across more real projects and Mac configurations.
Can I export my manuscript?
Yes. Folian includes export and backup tools so you can carry work out of the project.
What is the refund policy?
Except where required by applicable law, purchases of Folian are non-refundable once the software or download access has been supplied. See the refund policy for full detail.
How do I download updates?
Updates released during the Beta are included with your purchase. Delivery details come with your purchase email and support documentation.

Optional AI uses bring-your-own provider keys. External AI billing is managed by your provider, not Folian.
Is Folian available for Mac?
