What beta means
Folian is usable for real writing projects. Public beta means that some workflows, edge cases and interface details will continue to improve as the application is used across more projects and Mac configurations. Keep appropriate backups of important work.
You remain responsible for backing up your manuscripts and project files. Folian stores projects locally on your machine.

Optional AI uses bring-your-own provider keys. External AI billing is managed by your provider, not Folian.

- What does paid public beta mean?
- You are buying the current Folian desktop app for Mac as a one-time purchase. Some workflows and interface details will continue to improve during the beta. It is not a disposable demo or prototype.
- Is Folian a subscription?
- Folian is a one-time purchase. There is no mandatory Folian desktop subscription.
- What happens when the beta ends?
- Your purchase includes the Folian desktop app for Mac and updates released for this beta licence. Exact update entitlement will match the final commercial licence at checkout. Folian Studio remains a separate future product.
- Does Folian include Folian Studio?
- Folian Studio will be a separate future cloud and browser-based workspace and is not included with the desktop purchase.
- Where is my writing stored?
- Folian is local-first. Your manuscript and project files live on your machine. Folian does not upload your desktop project data to Folian servers as part of normal writing.
- Does Folian require AI?
- No. The core writing system works without AI. Optional AI uses bring-your-own provider keys when you choose to configure them.
- Can I use my own OpenAI, Anthropic or other provider key?
- Yes, when you choose to enable optional AI. You connect your own provider, stay in control of usage, and external AI billing remains with that provider.
- Is Windows available?

- What happens if I find a bug?
- Report issues to hello@folian.app. Public beta exists so we can refine Folian across more real projects and Mac configurations.
- Can I export my manuscript?
- Yes. Folian includes export capability so you can carry work out of the project without leaving manuscript context behind.
- What is the refund policy?
- Except where required by applicable law, purchases of Folian are non-refundable once the software or download access has been supplied. See the refund policy for full detail.
- How do I download updates?
- Download and update delivery details are provided with your purchase email and support documentation. Do not assume an automatic updater until it is confirmed for the shipping build.
- What Mac versions are supported?
- Folian for Mac is the supported platform for this release. Exact minimum macOS version and architecture support will be confirmed against the final signed build before purchase activation.
