Last updated: May 20, 2026
This Privacy Policy explains how Folian collects, uses, stores, shares and protects information when you visit folian.app, join the waitlist, purchase Folian, download the app, use the desktop app or communicate with us.
Folian is a desktop writing operating system for long-form fiction. It may include manuscript tools, story bible tools, canon management, character records, planning tools, style profiles, AI provider settings and related writing features.
The Folian website is used to market, sell and support Folian for users globally.
In this policy, "Folian", "we", "us" and "our" means ABL International. "You" means the person using Folian or visiting the website.
If you do not agree with this Privacy Policy, you should not use Folian.
1. Who we are
Folian is operated by:
ABL International United Arab Emirates Email: hello@folian.app

2. What Folian is
Folian is currently a desktop-only application.
The website at folian.app is used to market Folian, provide information, collect waitlist signups, sell access, provide downloads, publish help content and communicate with users.
At this stage, documents, manuscripts, story bibles, canon records, character notes, style profiles and other project content created inside Folian are stored locally on the user's own machine.
This means Folian does not currently operate as a cloud manuscript storage service.

- Local settings.
- Preferences.
- App configuration.
- AI provider settings.
- Local database files.

3.5 AI provider information
Folian uses a bring-your-own AI keys model.
AI use is optional.
You can use Folian as a writing OS without using AI features.
If you choose to connect an AI provider, such as OpenAI, Claude or another supported provider, you may add your own API key or similar credential into Folian.
Depending on how Folian is implemented, that key may be stored locally on your device or otherwise handled only to enable the connection you choose.
When you use AI features, content may be sent from your local Folian app to the AI provider you selected. This may include:
- Your prompt.
- Selected manuscript text.
- Story bible context.
- Character information.
- Canon details.
- Style rules.
- Planning notes.
- Other project context you choose to use with AI.
Folian does not control how third-party AI providers process information once you send it to them through your own account or API key. You should review the privacy policy, terms and data settings of any AI provider you connect.
If you do not want your writing content sent to an AI provider, do not connect an AI provider or do not use AI features.

The purpose is to complete the request you make, such as brainstorming, drafting, summarising, revising, analysing, researching or checking continuity.

11. International users and transfers
Folian is operated by ABL International in the United Arab Emirates and is marketed to users globally.

15. Children and younger users
Folian does not set a specific age restriction for use of the desktop app.
However, users are responsible for complying with the rules of any third-party AI provider, payment provider or platform they use in connection with Folian.
If a user is not legally able to purchase software, enter contracts or use third-party AI services in their location, they should only use Folian with the involvement of a parent, guardian or other authorised person.
AI provider age restrictions, account rules and usage terms are set by the AI provider, not by Folian or ABL International.
