Folian

Is My API Key Safe in Folian?

An AI API key should be treated like a password.

It gives an app permission to connect to your AI provider account, so it should be handled carefully and kept private.

This guide explains the basics of API key safety for writers using Folian.

What an API key does

An API key creates a secure connection between Folian and your supported AI provider.

When the key is added to Folian, the app can send your AI writing requests to the provider you choose.

That is why the key needs to stay private.

What not to do with an API key

  • Do not post your key publicly.
  • Do not paste it into social media.
  • Do not share it in screenshots.
  • Do not add it to documents other people can access.
  • Do not send it in public support threads.
  • Do not store it somewhere insecure.

If someone else gets your key, they may be able to use your AI provider account.

What to do if a key is exposed

If you think your key has been exposed:

  1. Go to your AI provider account.
  2. Delete or revoke the exposed key.
  3. Create a new key.
  4. Add the new key to Folian.
  5. Check recent usage in your provider dashboard.

Can I remove my key from Folian?

You should be able to remove or replace your key in Folian settings.

If you stop using a provider, remove the key from Folian and revoke it from the provider account.

Simple safety rule

Treat your API key like a password.

If you would not publish your password somewhere, do not publish your API key there either.
