Product direction

Longer-term ideas we are exploring. These are direction, not promises—and priorities may shift with beta feedback.

Visual story development

Help you see how story elements connect and where changes may have consequences—including a Continuity Map over time.

  • Scene Board and visual story planningExploring
  • Story Graph and relationship visualisationExploring
  • Continuity Map and visual timelineExploring
  • Connections between characters, scenes, decisions and eventsExploring

Screenwriting

Screenplay is a project type today, but the dedicated experience still needs product validation.

  • Dedicated screenplay writing experienceExploring
  • Screenplay formatting and keyboard workflowsExploring
  • Screenplay export and planning toolsExploring

Publishing

Deterministic layout and typography with writer control; AI may assist with setup, not replace your choices.

  • Publishing setup and EPUB improvementsExploring
  • Print/PDF output and publishing preparationExploring

Platform expansion

  • Windows and broader desktop support where it makes senseExploring

Cloud and collaboration

Exploratory only. Optional cloud capabilities should not remove the local-first foundation.

  • Optional sync, collaboration or remote access to selected contextExploring
  • Hosted intelligence services—only if they respect local ownershipExploring

Product principles

These principles guide what we build—and what we choose not to build.

  • Writer first

Folian should support your decisions rather than make them for you. The manuscript stays yours.

  • Local first

Your project belongs to you. Local storage and portability remain fundamental—not optional extras.

  • AI optional

Core writing does not require AI. You choose whether to connect a provider and which keys to use.

  • Review before change

Suggestions from Folian or external tools should be reviewable before they become part of your project.

  • Context over generation

Folian’s strength is understanding your manuscript, canon, characters, timeline and decisions—not flooding you with prose.

  • Portability

You should know where your work lives and be able to export it in useful formats when you need to.
