How to Create a Claude API Key for Folian

This guide explains how to create a Claude API key and connect it to Folian.

Claude API access is managed through Anthropic. You do not need to code, but you may need to create an Anthropic account and check billing or usage settings before using the API heavily.

Before you start

You will need:

• An Anthropic Console account.
• API access enabled where available.
• Access to Folian settings.
• A few minutes to copy and test the key.

Create your Claude API key

1. Go to the Anthropic Console.
2. Sign in or create an account.
3. Open account settings.
4. Find API keys.
5. Create a new key.
6. Copy the key.
7. Keep it private.

Add the key to Folian

1. Open Folian.
2. Go to Settings.
3. Choose AI Providers.
4. Find the Claude field.
5. Paste your Claude API key.
6. Save the settings.
7. Test the connection.

Check usage and billing

Before using Claude heavily inside Folian, check your Anthropic billing and usage settings.

AI usage can vary depending on the model, the amount of text being processed and the type of task. A short brainstorming request will usually be lighter than a long chapter review with story bible context.

What to do if it does not work

• Check that the key was copied correctly.
• Check that your Anthropic account has API access.
• Check billing or usage settings.
• Create a new key and try again.
• Make sure there are no extra spaces before or after the key.
