How to Create an OpenAI API Key for Folian

This guide explains how to create an OpenAI API key and connect it to Folian.

You do not need to code. The process is mostly creating an account, generating a key, copying it and pasting it into Folian.

Important note: ChatGPT Plus and OpenAI API usage are separate. A ChatGPT subscription does not automatically include API usage in other apps.

Before you start

You will need:

• An OpenAI Platform account.
• Billing or usage access enabled if required by OpenAI.
• Access to Folian settings.
• A few minutes to copy and test the key.

Create your OpenAI API key

1. Go to the OpenAI Platform.
2. Sign in or create an account.
3. Open the API keys section.
4. Create a new secret key.
5. Copy the key immediately.
6. Keep it private and do not share it publicly.

Add the key to Folian

1. Open Folian.
2. Go to Settings.
3. Choose AI Providers.
4. Find the OpenAI field.
5. Paste your OpenAI API key.
6. Save the settings.
7. Test the connection.

Keep your key safe

Treat your API key like a password.

Do not paste it into public documents, social posts or support threads. If you think the key has been exposed, delete it from your OpenAI account and create a new one.

What to do if it does not work

• Check that the key was copied correctly.
• Check that your OpenAI account has API access.
• Check billing or usage settings.
• Create a new key and try again.
• Make sure there are no extra spaces before or after the key.
